Ringing Steel at 500 Meters with an M1A SOCOM

There is nothing quite like the delayed ring of a steel plate at 500 meters. Steel tells the shooter right away whether the wind call was right, with no spotting scope and no long walk downrange.

Why steel works at distance

At long range, paper holes are hard to see even with good glass. A swinging plate shows the hit by sound and movement, so corrections happen on the next shot instead of after the string. Larger plates are a good start, then shrink the plate as confidence grows.

Set it up right

Use hard, rated steel, hang it so it can swing, and angle it slightly toward the ground. Steel Targets covers plate types and safety, and Target Stands covers the hardware.
